Troubleshooting

Common issues and how to fix them. If your problem isn't listed here, contact support — we typically respond within one business day.

App won't start

  1. Check that your computer meets the system requirements
  2. Restart your computer
  3. Reinstall AllMy Ledger from the download page

Reinstalling won't delete your data — your company files are stored separately.

macOS: "App can't be opened"

On first launch, macOS may block the app because it wasn't downloaded from the App Store. Right-click the app, choose Open, then click Open again to confirm. You only need to do this once.

Linux: AppImage won't run

Make sure the file is executable: chmod +x AllMyLedger*.AppImage. On Ubuntu 22.04+, you also need FUSE: sudo apt install libfuse2.

Import failed

Check the file format:

  • QuickBooks Desktop: Must be CSV format — General Ledger report + Journal report (required), Account Listing (optional). See the QB Desktop migration guide.
  • QuickBooks Online: Must be XLSX format — General Ledger + Journal (required), Customer List + Vendor List (optional). See the QBO migration guide.
  • Bank transactions: Must be OFX, QFX, or QBO format. CSV is not supported for bank statement imports.

Bank file won't import

AllMy Ledger accepts OFX, QFX, and QBO bank files. If your bank only offers CSV downloads, check if they also offer OFX or QFX — most banks do. Look for "Download Transactions" or "Export to Quicken/QuickBooks" in your online banking portal.

Transactions don't match during reconciliation

If the difference isn't zero when reconciling:

  1. Verify the statement ending balance matches your bank statement exactly
  2. Check for transactions in AllMy Ledger that aren't on the bank statement (uncheck them)
  3. Check for bank statement items missing from AllMy Ledger (add them from the reconciliation screen)
  4. Verify amounts — a transposed digit is a common cause
  5. If you're stuck, click Postpone to save your progress and come back later

Report numbers look wrong

  • Check the date range. Make sure you're looking at the right period.
  • Check cash vs accrual basis. The P&L and Balance Sheet have a toggle. Cash basis recognizes income when payment is received; accrual recognizes it when invoiced.
  • Check filters. Some reports filter by account type or hide zero balances.
  • Verify categorization. If amounts are in the wrong category, edit the transaction and assign the correct account.

Lost my data file

  1. Check the default company folder for your platform (see Backup & Restore for paths)
  2. Search for files with the .ledger extension
  3. Check the backups/ folder inside your company directory — auto-backups may be available
  4. Check your remote backup folder if you configured one
  5. Check cloud storage trash (Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive)

If you can't find the file and don't have a backup, the data is gone. This is why regular backups are critical.

Trial expired

The 7-day trial gives you full access to all features. After it expires, you'll need to purchase a license to continue using AllMy Ledger. Your data is preserved — nothing is deleted when the trial ends.
